Pio Pico State Historic Park holds Living History Days on various Saturdays during the year.  These events cover California history and the Mexican War.  Pio Pico State Historic Park is located on Pioneer Boulevard at Whittier Boulevard in Whittier, Los Angeles County, CA - Whittier Boulevard exit from the 605 Freeway.

Juan Bautista Valentin Alvarado y Vallejo was born in Monterey, California on February 14, 1809.  At age 27 he was appointed Governor of California.  Governor Alvarado was a political foe of Pio Pico
of Southern California.

Pio Pico Living History Day
Beside visiting the historic home of Pio Pico, the last
Mexican Governor of California, visitors have a chance
to participate in become Californios.  The youths are
dressed up to represent the era, and given duties to
perform.  The youths learn the history of California from
a different viewpoint, not just from reading a book.
